Native to North America, cranberries have been used as a medicinal agent for centuries. Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins, which have been shown to inhibit the fimbrial adhesion of bacteria, including Escherichia coli, to the urinary tract epithelium, hence preventing bacterial proliferation and infection. These unique proanthocyanidin compounds, and not acidification of the urine, are suggested to be pivotal in preventing urinary tract infections (UTI).

    • NFH – EGCG SAP

      $77.00

Consuming green tea has been associated with lowered risk of several types of human cancers and cardiovascular disease. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a potent natural antioxidant, is the major chemopreventive agent in green tea. Anthocyanidins are colourful antioxidant compounds, found in high concentrations in fruits and berries, that protect against oxidative stress and maintain DNA integrity. Anthocyanidins also act as anti-inflammatory and antimutagenic agents, and by helping maintain vascular permeability offer cardioprotection. In human trials, supplementation with lycopene, a potent carotenoid antioxidant, has improved blood pressure, lipid peroxidation, LDL-cholesterol oxidation, protein oxidation, and symptoms of prostate cancer.

    • NFH – EPO SAP

      $32.00

Evening primrose oil (EPO) contains essential fatty acids that have several beneficial effects in the body. EPO is a source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which, when used topically, has been demonstrated to aid in the management of atopic dermatitis. EPO also contains precursors of prostaglandin E1 which, when deficient, can contribute to many female hormone balancing concerns, including PMS symptoms such as depression, irritability, breast pain, and fluid retention. Deficiency of prostaglandin E1 can also contribute to menopausal symptoms including hot flashes. EPO also inhibits leukotriene synthesis, which is an inflammatory mediator and can therefore be used to reduce systemic inflammation in the body.

    • NFH – Heme Iron SAP (60 capsules)

      $60.00

Heme iron is a highly bioavailable form of iron, isolated from animal sources with maximal human intestinal absorption. Heme iron is not associated with common side effects of elemental (nonheme) iron supplementation such as constipation, nausea, and gastrointestinal upset.

    • NFH – Inositol SAP (500 grams)

      $55.00

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common cause of ovulatory disorders and female infertility. Signs and symptoms of PCOS may include anovulation or menstrual irregularities, ovarian cysts on ultrasound, hyperandrogenism including hirsutism, acne, and alopecia, insulin resistance, and obesity. Insulin resistance and secondary hyperinsulinemia appear to play a causative role in the development of PCOS. In addition, PCOS patients suffer from elevated oxidative stress and systemic inflammation. Myo‑inositol has been suggested as a first-line therapy in the management of PCOS, and has been shown to be effective in mitigating the symptoms of this syndrome and its associated comorbidities.

    • NFH – Iron SAP

      $21.00

Iron-deficiency anemia is the most prevalent type of anemia in North America. It can cause fatigue, weakness, headaches, and poor concentration. Particularly susceptible are women of child-bearing age and pregnant women, children, undernourished laborers, and the very poor. In children, deficiency can result in irreversible impairment of growth and cognitive development, emotional problems, and impaired immune function. Common problems with iron supplementation have included poor bioavailability, extensive inhibition by dietary components (most notably phytates), and gastrointestinal side effects. Iron chelated with the amino acid glycine is more highly absorbable and elicits greater clinical efficacy than other forms, while exhibiting minimal digestive discomfort. Each capsule provides 30 mg of elemental iron.

Vitamin K is involved in blood coagulation, bone metabolism and assists in reducing urinary calcium excretion. Vitamin K is a cofactor in several biochemical pathways, especially, the γ-carboxylation of glutamyl residues in the bone protein osteocalcin, matrix γ-carboxyglutamyl protein, and protein S. Vitamin K2 is the most potent form, exerting the highest gamma-carboxylation activity when compared to other vitamin K forms. Vitamin D3 is a critical vitamin to overall human health. K2-D3 SAP can help alleviate osteoporosis by improving bone mineral density and enhancing healthy bone development. K2-D3 SAP can help maintain immune function and regulate the process of normal cell division.

    • NFH – L-Lysine

      $21.00

Lysine is classified as being an essential amino acid for human health. This means that lysine has to be consumed in adequate amount in the diet and cannot be synthesized from other amino acids in the body. Lysine is found in highest concentrations in animal protein sources such as meat and dairy. Lower amounts are found in proteins from grain products such as corn and wheat. Lysine is required by the body for many functions, including the synthesis of various connective tissues such as skin, collagen, elastin, and bone. Lysine is also required for the synthesis of carnitine, a nonessential amino acid that assists in the conversion of fatty acids to energy. This is an important function for the health of the immune system, and especially important for antiviral activity. This is one of the reasons that lysine has benefit in treating the herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections also known as cold sores. Lysine has also been shown to help absorb calcium and decreases the amount of calcium excreted in the urine.
